The Professionals-in-Training (PIT) Symposium is the annual highlight of our ongoing talent development programme wherein

we challenge young professionals in Exxaro to solve some of the very practical short-term challenges to fulfil our purpose of

POWERING BETTER LIVES IN AFRICA AND BEYOND,

as well as longer term objectives of fulfilling our vision of creating

RESOURCES TO POWER A CLEAN WORLD.

Project: Renewable Energy Technology (Wind and Solar) - Overview & Trend

The project aims to identify the limitations prohibiting the growth of solar and wind energy. The project’s key objective is to provide solutions to overcome these limitations and allow for a faster adoption rate of solar and wind energy. We will achieve this by exploiting regulatory opportunities, adopting new technologies and applying these concepts into Exxaro’s business model.

Project: Maximising Success In Transition

To enable a successful transition into a low carbon economy will require that Exxaro moves from the 4th to the 5th Industrial Revolution. This transition will not be successful if it is not just a transition for Exxaro means to uplift communities, motivate employees, suppliers and customers to go on the net-zero carbon journey with us. To take care of the environment by making our operations greener and to move into the renewable energy space, to power better lives for Africa and beyond.

Project: Belfast Magnetite Consumption - 'Back to Basics'

Medium loss accounts for about 20% of the plant's operational expenses. As a result, magnetite consumption is critical in evaluating the economics of any coal preparation plant. A low magnetite consumption rate is vital to keep the cost of coal beneficiation low and with the high-grade coal that the Belfast dense medium separation plant produces, magnetite consumption control is key.

Project - Belfast Export Yield Optimisation

Belfast Coal produces A-grade thermal coal and primarily supplies to the export market. As an export mine, achieving the budgeted plant yield is critical as it directly influences the amount of product produced and in turn the mine’s performance.

Project - Let's 'Torque' GG2 Thickeners

Dense Medium Separation (DMS) plants have a thickening stage where ultrafine material is handled, and large volumes of process water is recovered for reuse. GG2 plant thickeners experiences high torque on the rake drive. This occurrence results in stoppages affecting productivity. This project evaluated different solutions that will yield the highest value in terms of addressing coarse material reporting to the thickeners.
